All Night Long DJ's....at 15???

After a down low trip to snag some "used" DJ gear and a few months of intense practice, I was pumped and ready to dive into the world of live DJ'ing! But the big question was, where could I start? Fortunately, a childhood friend of mine worked at a local men's clothing store, which honestly could have been called the Guido Depot. There, I met a guy who was the go-to DJ whenever someone came in for a suit or tuxedo fitting. He was part of All Night Long DJ's, a local DJ company known for rocking most of the neighborhood weddings, sweet 16 parties, and more........so this was around 1988-1989 I was given a shot to ride with and spin the records (yes we used actual records).......
Unfortunately my fondest memory of this experience was a small blunder of mine.......while spinning a classic Disco set I had a 12" re-issue of La Flavour-"Mandolay" on the table with the date of 1985 on the label.....obvious to me now that was the date it was re-released......but as the MC was announcing to the crowd "Let's go wayyyyyy back to 1979" I shouted to him and said "1985" to which he quickly "corrected" himself and said "sorry....1985!"........but was eager to correct me afterwards and give me a little "you have alot to learn kid....." moment......the obsession to find out the origins of these records was building......
